DrThestral (/ˈdɒktə θæstrɔl/; born July 2, 2004, Santa Clara, California, U.S.) is a Dutch composer, music producer, and YouTube content creator, best known for original instrumental music and soundtracks used within Minecraft communities. He is particularly associated with the WafCorp project.

Early life and education

DrThestral was born on July 2, 2004 in Santa Clara, California, United States. He moved to the Netherlands when he was three years old and has lived there since. He is currently studying to earn a Batchelor's degree in Physics and Astronomy.

Career

Online presence and music

DrThestral publishes instrumental and cinematic music via platforms including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music under his own independend label called The Fantasy Realm. The artist's YouTube channel describes him as a music producer creating pieces that aim to inspire creativity. His most-listened track on Spotify is Martius Vacui, and his first single was Rise of Spellbound. The releases WSMP, Vol. 1, WSMP, Vol. 2 and Le Cri Des Morts are themed around the Waffles SMP universe. As of 2025 he has just over 100 subscribers on YouTube and around 10 monthly listeners on Spotify. On October 30, 2022, he released a face-reveal video to celebrate reaching 100 YouTube subscribers.

Waffles SMP and WafCorp

DrThestral is the main composer for the Waffles SMP, a public Minecraft survival multiplayer (SMP) server run by content creator WafflesAreBetter and managed under WafCorp. WafCorp lists a profile for DrThestral that references the artist's role in composing music and managing musical content for the server's nations and regions. The WafCorp pages credit him with composing official anthems and background music for server nations and list the in-game nation "Magical Democracy" as founded on February 17, 2022.

Collaborations and commissions

DrThestral has composed commissioned music for other small creators such as WafflesAreBetter, Lynxid, and TheEnderCore. He is affiliated with WafCorp and has done commissions for Jumprope Studios and Team Voided.
